1 So…. All of that bad weather and high wind we were trying to avoid by leaving home a day later? Don’t look now, but it’s back! We may be seeing gusts up to 30 mph from the west as we head into Las Cruces.

4 It’s really beginning to look as though all of Texas along the eclipse line will be in heavy cloud cover, so we’re thinking of heading a little farther north. Instead of Deming, we’re heading to Alamogordo, NM, and later continuing toward Oklahoma City and up toward Illinois. We’ll keep an eye on the weather and see if we can go back to our original plans, but it doesn’t look good.

6 It turned out that even though the forecast said we should see 40 mph gusts coming into Las Cruces, we didn't really see any of that.  There was a lot of rain and some wind, but it really wasn't bad at all.

22 Even though the GPS said to "Turn Left" at the end of the directions, we could clearly see the campground entrace was Right!  After all, they had this huge (20+ ft high) entrance gate, large and wide enough for two semi's to park under!  It turns out this campground is "very new" and we got the last spot available for today.  It's level enough that we don't even need to unhitch the trailer, which should help us get out earlier tomorrow morning.

24 Speaking of tomorrow...  [[Onward to McDowell Campground>>McDowell-Campground]] at McClellan Creek National Grassland, east of Groom, TX, which is east of Amarillo.  There are actually a few primitive campgrounds around this small lake and we've read that the lake is currently dry, so we're hoping that we will find something, even though it's first-come-first-serve, no reservations.
