13 | According to "[[Drive Weather>>https://driveweatherapp.com/]]", this should have been mostly in rain and thunderstorms, but in reality we didn't hit much until we were closer to Clovis

19 | |||
20 | Arriving at Clovis, we were shown to our camp site, we connected everything up, and went on a small hike along a trail which circled a small pond.

25 | Along the trail were interesting informational signs about Clovis. One mentioned where the town got its name:

36 | May 12 (Kelly's Birthday):
37 | |||
38 | We slept in and had a very slow start to our day. It was wonderful after far too many early mornings!
39 | |||
40 | Finally, having some chocolate covered strawberries to start our day, then having some breakfast, & feeding the kitties, we made our way 1 hour south to Kenna, NM. This is basically a ghost town these days. There's really just one post office which is a totally trashed building, plus some dirt roads.

44 | Kelly was told that she should go to Kenna to look for Clovis point arrowheads. It was interesting, heading south, that the completely flat praries started actually turning into rolling hills around Kenna. We were somewhat hopeful that we would at least find different rocks if not maybe some arrowheads.

48 | |||
49 | We visited the Old Kenna Cemetary, the New Kenna Cemetary, and looked at rocks along the railroad tracks next to the main highway.

55 | The old windmill originally pumped water into a container just to the right of the frame. It didn't seem operational now, but the container had lots of water, so maybe....
56 | |||
57 | |||
58 | At one point, a railroad truck came riding down the tracks. Richard's father, who previously worked for Southern Railway in North Carolina, used to describe this type of vehicle which can ride on the tracks and is used in order to check the state of the tracks in a district. The truck raised the railroad wheels and drove onto the roadway, sitting near our truck for quite a long time. After what must have been at least 1/2 hour or more, he suddenly drove over to the truck, where Richard was sitting, and informed us that our truck was on the railroad right-of-way. Richard immediately offered to gather up Kelly and leave, but after further discussion we agreed that simply moving the truck next to the old post office was fine. So, the truck was moved and Kelly continued to look at rocks for a few more hours.
59 | |||
60 | Kelly found many interesting rocks and had a great time, which is always a good way to spend one's birthday!
61 | |||
62 | After sunset, we returned to the trailer, dropping by a Walmart on the way back to pick up some more strawberries!
