54 After leaving the dam, we rejoined I-20 toward Columbia, SC.  Instead of staying on interstate highways, we decided to take some smaller roads.  This allowed us to cut across between I-20 and I-26 and avoid Columbia completely.  It turns out that this takes within 5 minutes of the same amount of time, because while you're going through a bunch of small towns, you're also cutting out a lot of road.

63 Finally, we joined I-26 and headed toward Charleston.  That part of the freeway looked pretty much the same I-20 in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia; forest on both sides of the road.  Finally, as we entered northern Charleston, we got into some very heavy traffic, but that only lasted a little while until we joined the Savannah Highway (highway 17).

66 We finally reached my father's house outside of Charleston!  Here we are parked in the driveway, blocking their exit, of course!  (We later moved into the backyard and have our own 30 amp circuit and water.)
