Black Bean Soup

~2 Qts Black Beanies (around 2 lbs dried) (ala Cubano from Ozzie)

28oz can diced tomatoes

2 16oz cans refried beans (Kelly-safe)

1 Qt Better Than Bouillon Chicken broth

3 Cups  caywots, chopped into .25" rounds/half rounds (around 1 lb)

2 7oz cans chopped green chilis (mild)

hot water to rinse cans into pot, plus more to thin as desired

1.5 Cups bacon bits (crisped)

2 T bacon grease

2 T oregano, dried

2 T cumin, ground

2 t truffle salt

2 t ancho chili powder

2 t pasilla chili powder

16oz package frozen sweet corn kernels

Crisp the bacon bits first.

Combine all, except the corn kernels, bring to a boil, and simmer for 20 mins (at least) until caywots are tender.  Add the corn and once hot, serve with:

chopped cilantro

plain Greek yogurt
