Springhill Park
Before the left the campsite in Texas, we looked for campgrounds near Poplar Bluff and happened upon Eagle Creek Ranch & Campground, in the town of Doniphan, MO. They looked interesting because they didn't have a web page and were in a very small town near Poplar Bluff (which seemed to be slated as getting the best weather of all places we could reach within the alotted time).
Kelly looked up more information about them and found they still had openings! We Paypal'ed them the money and and now have a reservation there for Thursday - Tuesday. Apparently, they are also doing all sorts of local "small town" style festivities, such as a fund raiser at the local high school for the football team, an art show, etc. If we don't see much of the sun, at least we'll enjoy the whole small town atmosphere. Sounds kinda fun, like the adventure we at at the first US eclipse in Weiser, ID!
This was another long day of driving and the kitties were not happy. They mostly slept.
A total of 401 miles, almost all on I-40.
We were in 3 states today; Texas to Oklahoma
and into Arkansas (note the cops right there at the state line, making sure everyone is obeying their laws!)
See this lake:
That's "Lake Eufaula", after which the town is named:
The lake is located off of "Lotawatah Rd":
So... Yes, we're saying:
When you see Lotawatah, be careful or Eufalah into the lake!
We finally made it to our campground by the river, where we had a nice little walk along the shore
saw some pretty flowers and interesting tree bark:
And thus ended one of our longer days of travel.
Tomorrow, we head to our eclipse site in the Metropolis of "Doniphan"!
Even if we don't see the actual sun during the eclipse, at least we'll have a great time in a cute small town and contribute to the local economy.
Did we mention the T-shirts?
