It's currently the Friday afternoon before we leave, 3/29/2024.  I'm using the program "Drive Weather" on my iPhone, which conveniently tells you what weather you'll be getting into given where you're going and when you leave.  If we leave around noon Saturday, we will be seeing 30+ mph winds from the WSW, just after we cross over the mountains, around Ocatillo, CA!  It's even possible we could end up in 35 mph winds!  But, this is the time we're hoping to leave, so it is what it is.  We will also be in rain until we get around the state line into Arizona, so high winds plus wet roads!  Yay...  Not!

Saturday morning… ugh

Ok, so first the Drive Weather program is showing that if we leave today, we will encounter 30 mph winds through the mountains with gust above 40!  Just now, Kelly & I both received a weather alert notice clearly saying DO NOT TRAVEL today!  So much for plans, I guess!  We’ll leave tomorrow morning, when indications are that things will be better.

(Also, currently our eclipse location is supposed to be getting thunderstorms on eclipse day.  We may be driving elsewhere and sleeping overnight in the truck.)

Ok, so it's still raining here at home on Sunday, but the wind speeds over the mountains and the rest of the trip look better.  We're going to give it a try and see how far we get.  In the meantime, we talked to our friends Brendan & Tigra, who live in Tucson and they're ok with us staying the night in their driveway, even though they don't expect to be there!  So...

On the road again!  Let the adventure begin!

quite a lot of rain at the beginning and end of the trip, quite sunny in the middle

we finally made it to our friend's place in Tucson:

We'll spend the night here and head to Deming, NM tomorrow.
