Charleston Pics
Here's some random pictures around Charleston.
The state bird of both North and South Carolina, is the Cardinal:
The way the local Charlestonians say it, "the Ashley river and the Cooper river come together at Charleston and create the Atlantic Ocean":
Here's the large, modern, "Arthur Ravenel, Jr Bridge" across the Cooper River, going from Charleston to Mt Pleasant.
They have lizards there! This one was at my Dad's back door.
and geese in the backyard!
(Taken by my brother and send to me via email the morning after we left)
Here's a bunch of old people! (left to right, Richard, Richard's Mom [who has no idea whose hand she's holding to her right] & Dad [the "birthday boy" at 90 years], and Richard's brother Randy):
The event which started this whole trip was my father's 90th birthday party in Charleston, SC. My cousin Brian and his partner Rob put together an amazing birthday party for him where people could drop in throughout the evening. I don't think we have a picture of the spread, but it was amazing! And to think that they did all of this for his uncle! They are truly amazing and nice people!
Kelly and Richard had a really good time visiting with Richard's Dad and talked a lot in the evenings about his early experiences in the military at The Citadel in Charleston and his early career working for the Southern Railway. It was good visit and we need to go back again "soon". We're thinking about maybe making the solar eclipse trip to Texas into a larger trip to Charleston again also. We'll see how things go.
