24 +Leaving the garden close to their closing time of 6pm,  it was time to head to our appointment with some bats!  Having done some research online (batsinaustin.com), we were armed with quite a few potential parking locations, some free, others cheap, and still others a little more expensive.  We decided to try out the first choice of "Austin American-Statesman’s Bat Observation Center".  Their parking lot is right beside the bridge to the south and is said to be free after 6pm.  We arrived and found signs saying it was "patrolled" and was a paid lot "24/7".  Strange.  But, there were many other cars of people already there and furthermore, while the machines mentioned giving your parking space number when paying, there were no parking space numbers anywhere in the lot!  We decided to trust the web page and get settled in.  After a while Richard received a phone notification of "severe thundershowers starting in 10 minutes!"  It wasn't kidding and it wasn't wrong!

37 37  As some may say, "the heavens opened up and a thunderstorm of biblical proportions commenced!", and everyone ran for cover!  It was amazingly fast!  It appeared, from radar, as though the storm wasn't going to end quickly, so we decided to try to drive, slowly and carefully, back to the campground.  Obviously, the bats were going to be flying today.
